Replacement Windows in Rhode Island
Current incentive status, energy-code requirements, and local market research for Rhode Island homeowners replacing windows and doors.
Rebates & incentives
The federal window tax credit (25C) ended for projects placed in service after December 31, 2025. If your windows were installed in 2025, you can still claim it on your 2025 return — but for new projects there is no federal window credit. State and utility programs are now the main source of window incentives.
Rhode Island's IRA Home Energy Rebates are administered by the Office of Energy Resources (OER) in partnership with Rhode Island Energy, and the state is among the furthest along: the income-qualified Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates pathway launched in 2024, while the whole-home Home Efficiency Rebates track was rolling out through 2026. Windows qualify under the Home Efficiency Rebates track based on modeled whole-home savings rather than as a per-window rebate. Confirm the current launch stage and eligibility with OER, since the retail Home Efficiency pathway was still coming online in mid-2026.
- Rhode Island Energy Home Energy Assessment. Rhode Island Energy (the utility, formerly National Grid RI) runs strong ratepayer-funded efficiency programs, but the rebates center on insulation, air sealing, and heating and cooling equipment identified in a home energy assessment rather than windows; there is generally no standalone per-window utility rebate, so windows are pursued through the whole-home IRA track instead. Energy code
Rhode Island adopted the 2024 IECC in full (effective late 2024), giving it one of the stronger residential energy codes in the country, with Providence permits issued through the city's building official under the state code. In the Northern climate (IECC zone 5A) specify a low U-factor rated window to meet code.
