The Window Monitor is an independent research publication. We are also a business, and this page explains how we make money, plainly, because our usefulness to you depends on your ability to trust what you read here.

How we make money

When you request a project quote through our site, we may be paid a fee by the installer or manufacturer partner who receives your request. Highlighted placements in our installer listings are paid positions, and they are always labeled. We may also earn fees when businesses claim and enhance their listings.

Our listing tiers

Two of the four tiers in our listings are paid, and both are labeled on the listing itself. Premier Partner is a paid placement held by one company nationally and reviewed annually; it carries highlighted placement and a "Top Pick" badge whose criteria we publish. Sponsored Partner is a paid tier any window company can join by claiming its listing. Companies marked neither are listed because we verified they exist and operate in that market, and they pay us nothing. Full detail is on our partner network page.

Where a listing shows a star rating, that rating was supplied by the company and is displayed with its source and date beside it. We have not independently audited those numbers, and we say so wherever they appear.

What money does not buy

Compensation does not change the facts we publish. Cost ranges, efficiency requirements, rebate statuses, and housing data are drawn from cited public sources (Census Bureau, Department of Energy, EPA ENERGY STAR, IRS, NOAA) regardless of any commercial relationship. Editorial guides are not submitted to partners for approval. Factual information, such as whether a business exists and where, is never removed or hidden because a business has not paid us.

Paid tiers also never receive a numbered rank. The numbers beside listings are ours; the badges are bought. Keeping those two things visually separate is deliberate.

Brand names mentioned on this site (including Renewal by Andersen, Pella, Marvin, and others) are trademarks of their respective owners. Their appearance here is for identification and comparison; it does not imply endorsement of this site by those companies unless explicitly stated.
