Replacement Windows in Kentucky
Current incentive status, energy-code requirements, and local market research for Kentucky homeowners replacing windows and doors.
Rebates & incentives
The federal window tax credit (25C) ended for projects placed in service after December 31, 2025. If your windows were installed in 2025, you can still claim it on your 2025 return — but for new projects there is no federal window credit. State and utility programs are now the main source of window incentives.
Kentucky's IRA Home Energy Rebates (the Home Efficiency Rebates and Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates programs) are administered by the Energy and Environment Cabinet's Office of Energy Policy, funded by roughly $134 million from the U.S. DOE. As of mid-2026 the state had submitted its application and was standing the programs up, but the consumer-facing rebates had not launched. Windows would generally qualify only through the whole-home Home Efficiency Rebates track based on modeled energy savings, not as a standalone rebate; confirm current status with the Office of Energy Policy before promising anything.
- LG&E and KU Residential Rebates. Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities offer cash rebates for ENERGY STAR-certified HVAC equipment such as central air conditioners, heat pumps, and heat pump water heaters, but windows and doors are explicitly not eligible under the current rebate program, so replacement windows do not qualify for a direct utility rebate. Energy code
Kentucky's statewide residential energy code is still based on the 2009 IECC with state amendments and the state has historically lagged on adopting newer editions, with Louisville Metro enforcing the state code through its Department of Construction Review. In the North-Central climate (IECC zone 4A) look for a low U-factor rated replacement window; confirm the required U-factor with the local permitting office.
