Replacement Windows in Illinois
Current incentive status, energy-code requirements, and local market research for Illinois homeowners replacing windows and doors.
Rebates & incentives
The federal window tax credit (25C) ended for projects placed in service after December 31, 2025. If your windows were installed in 2025, you can still claim it on your 2025 return — but for new projects there is no federal window credit. State and utility programs are now the main source of window incentives.
Illinois has been rolling out IRA Home Energy Rebate programs; whole-home efficiency retrofits can include windows within a modeled-savings project. Confirm current program status and eligibility before counting on rebate dollars.
- ComEd energy efficiency program. ComEd funds home energy assessments and weatherization incentives; window replacement typically factors into whole-home efficiency work rather than a standalone window rebate. (ComEd Energy Efficiency Program pages)
Energy code
Illinois enforces the statewide Illinois Energy Conservation Code (based on recent IECC editions); the City of Chicago administers permitting and historic review through its own building department.
