Replacement Windows in Hawaii

Current incentive status, energy-code requirements, and local market research for Hawaii homeowners replacing windows and doors.

Rebates & incentives

The federal window tax credit (25C) ended for projects placed in service after December 31, 2025. If your windows were installed in 2025, you can still claim it on your 2025 return — but for new projects there is no federal window credit. State and utility programs are now the main source of window incentives.

Hawaii's IRA Home Energy Rebates (branded eHale by the Hawaiʻi State Energy Office) include HOMES whole-home efficiency and HEAR electrification pathways. As of mid-2026 HSEO indicated programs would become fully available in 2026 with funding pending U.S. DOE approval and subject to updated federal guidance — so residential IRA rebates were not a dependable consumer path yet. When live, windows would generally qualify only inside a modeled whole-home savings project, not as a simple per-window check. Confirm current status at energy.hawaii.gov before counting on rebate dollars.

  • Hawaii Energy (ratepayer efficiency program). Hawaii Energy offers residential rebates for electric utility customers on Oʻahu, Maui County, and Hawaiʻi Island, focused on water heating, air conditioning, appliances, and related measures. Standalone replacement-window rebates are not a reliable headline offer — cooling equipment and water heating dominate the catalog. Energy code

Hawaii amends the IECC for tropical conditions (IECC climate zone 1A). ENERGY STAR Southern-zone criteria still apply for labeled windows, but in practice solar heat gain (SHGC) and shading dominate because there is essentially no heating season — prioritize low-SHGC low-E glass, UV stability, and corrosion-resistant hardware in salt air. Local building departments enforce the state code with county amendments.
